About

Courtney creates wheel-thrown porcelain and stoneware vessels, exploring a wide range of firing techniques including Cone 10 and Cone 6, oxidation and reduction, as well as atmospheric firings such as salt and soda. Her practice is driven by an insatiable curiosity to investigate kiln environments and develop glazes that evoke rich, unpredictable surfaces on timeless forms.

She is especially drawn to atmospheric firings—particularly salt—which transform the surface of the clay, imparting each piece with distinct textures and nuanced color variations. Every part of the process, from throwing small to large forms in various clay bodies to mixing glazes and managing the rhythm of different kiln types, is a layered act of alchemy. Over time, knowledge accumulates like sediment, informing and enriching her work with each firing.

Courtney is a proud member of the Boulder Potters' Guild. Her handcrafted pottery pieces are available for purchase at Adorn in Denver and Vintrey Honest Goods in Lafayette.

I work out of my home studio in Fort Collins and transport my pottery to the Boulder Potters' Guild where it is fired. Chasing unique glaze results and firing in different kilns environments excites me. With Ceramic art there is so much to explore and many paths to pursue. At the guild I experiment with Salt, Soda, in Heavy Reduction, and Oxidation environments.

At some point in the 11 years living on Kauai, I became an avid seeker of shells. I'd wake before sunrise. I'd study the tides and swell. Then decide what shoreline to explore. My dad was taken by the ocean and sometime after shells started finding their way to me. Gifts from the sea. When I began creating with clay my work naturally incorporated these treasures. The Hawaiian Shell pottery collection comes from the countless hours spent, and miles walked in search of sunrise shells.

I find great joy in being a mother. Life is wonderfully full. I'm grateful to have found a partner like Corby. He helps in the studio and often we load the kilns together. We are truly a small family business and wear all the hats. So thank you for supporting us and my creative journey.
